"Blu" is the current nickname given by Heart Machine to a playable species of cat-like people within Hyper Light Breaker. They are humanoid blue beings with furred tails, long clawed fingers and long ears. They are also known as cat-folk.[1]
The Blu species heralds from the harsh mountainous region of the Northern Realms. The cold, harshness, brutality and roughness of their homelands have shaped the Blu into a people well-suited for action and adventure, and thus it was natural step for them to become Breakers.
The Blu species is also the species of the Drifter, the main character of Hyper Light Drifter.[2][3]
Anatomy[]
The Blu species are tall and lean but muscular humanoid, bipedal beings. They are feline beings whose bodies are covered in blue fur, which can be either a darker or a lighter hue, with very bright light blue, almost white patches in places, usually the hands, feet, chest, some of the neck and face and the inside of the ears. They have large, wide, long ears that can either flop down or point upwards like the ears of a cat. Some of them grow out their hair, which is blue, while others have a short and cropped style. The Blu are sinewy and fierce, athletic, nimble and determined, having lived their life in the extreme roughness of the mountainous north. Their fingers, on which they have five digits, end in long dark blue claw-like nails. They have a long tail growing from above their rear end that ends in a light blue furred switch. The Blu's eyes have irises of bluish magenta and pupils of purpleish blue.
The Blu wear clothes of different kinds, ranging from biker jackets to armor. Some of them also wear masks that cover their full faces.
Trivia[]
- The current nickname for the species, Blu, is obviously a play on the word "blue", and is based on the fact that the species have blue bodies.
- The Blu species was initially designed to be a single character with a simple albeit predetermined backstory, however as Heart Machine's animation department pushed for a limited form of character creation, Blu was changed into a species instead, and Heart Machine decided to offer a handful of different species to choose from to go with their new concept of limited character creation.
- The Blu species have been the main poster species for the game since its announcement, being front and center on all posters and the character that’s been featured in in-game screenshots.
- In all in-game screenshots featuring the Blu, the character has been shown wearing a red biker jacket, and with long blue hair.
- The Drifter in Hyper Light Drifter is a Blu/cat-person.
